George Doodnaught: medical regulator decision
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), Discipline Committee
What the panel found
The Discipline Committee found that he committed professional misconduct by having been found guilty of an offence relevant to his suitability to practise, by sexually abusing a patient, and by conduct that members would regard as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional, according to the CPSO public register.1
Related criminal case
Convicted in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in November 2013 of sexually assaulting 21 women who were sedated or semi conscious patients at North York General Hospital, and sentenced in February 2014 to 10 years in prison, as reported by Global News and The Canadian Press. The Court of Appeal for Ontario dismissed his appeal in October 2017, according to The Canadian Press.2,4
Response
He sought bail pending appeal through his lawyer Brian Greenspan in 2014. At a 2019 parole hearing he told the Parole Board of Canada he still denied sexually assaulting his victims, and the board denied parole, as reported by Global News.2,3
Appeal and later events
The CPSO register states that the discipline decision was not appealed.1
Status now
Registration revoked. The CPSO register lists him as "Inactive Revoked: Discipline Committee as of 22 May 2018" and not permitted to practise medicine.1
